How khwanjaa began.
The name khwanjaa comes from a Thai phrase that describes the feeling of a heart that has settled — the calm that follows a difficult decision made thoughtfully. That image stayed with us when we were thinking about what kind of practice to build.
khwanjaa Legal was established in Bangkok by a small group of family law practitioners who had spent years working in larger commercial firms and noticed, repeatedly, that the clients they found most meaningful were those dealing with family matters — often people who came in feeling uncertain, sometimes frightened, and almost always wishing the situation were simpler than it was.
We opened our doors on Sukhumvit Road with three convictions: that families deserve more time than the average legal consultation allows, that written agreements work better when they are written in language the people signing them actually understand, and that a mediation session is not a last resort — it can be a first step.
Since then, we have worked with Thai families, expatriate couples, mixed-nationality households, and multigenerational family groups who are thinking carefully about what comes next. The range of situations is wide. The approach is consistent.

Where We Practise
Our office is in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok, a central location accessible by BTS and MRT. We serve families across the Bangkok metropolitan area and can arrange remote consultations where appropriate.

Pimchanok Srisawat
Lead Mediator & Senior Counsel
Fourteen years in Thai family law, with a particular focus on mediation and cohabitation matters. Pimchanok completed advanced mediation training in Singapore and speaks Thai and English fluently.
Thomas Wiesner
International Family Law Adviser
Specialises in cross-border family matters for expatriate and mixed-nationality families in Thailand. Thomas previously practised in Vienna and has been based in Bangkok for nine years.
Natnaree Prachuap
Estate Planning & Documentation
Natnaree leads all family estate pre-planning work, bringing a methodical and unhurried approach to asset documentation, family conversations, and the preparation of coordinated plans.

Thai Bar Association
All practising attorneys at khwanjaa Legal are members in good standing with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and hold current practising certificates.
Client Confidentiality Protocol
Every engagement begins with a signed confidentiality agreement. Client information is stored in encrypted systems and never shared with third parties without written consent.
Document Review Process
No document is finalised without at least two internal reviews. Every draft is checked for plain-language clarity before it is shared with clients.
Mediation Ethics Standards
Our mediation practice follows the ethical guidelines of the Thailand Arbitration Center and the Asia Pacific Mediation Forum, ensuring impartiality throughout every session.
Personal Data Protection
We comply fully with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (PDPA). Clients receive a clear data notice at the start of every engagement.
Continuing Professional Development
Each member of our team completes a minimum of 30 hours of CPD annually, with a focus on family law developments, mediation technique, and cross-border legal frameworks.
Family law in Thailand, approached differently.
Thailand's legal framework for family matters — covering marriage, property co-ownership, inheritance, and domestic arrangements — is detailed and, in some areas, quite different from the systems that expatriate clients may be familiar with from their home countries. Navigating it well requires not just knowledge of the Civil and Commercial Code but also an understanding of how Thai courts interpret family-related provisions in practice.
At khwanjaa Legal, our work is focused on the preventive and constructive side of family law: helping couples and families put clear, thoughtful written structures in place before they are needed urgently. A cohabitation agreement drafted calmly, when a couple is in a positive and communicative frame, will almost always serve them better than one prepared under pressure. The same is true of estate pre-planning conversations — they are far more productive when there is no immediate crisis to navigate around.
The mediation work we do sits in a similar place. Many couples who come to us are not certain that their relationship has reached a point of no return. A mediation session gives them a structured, private space to discuss what is actually happening — with both partners' voices heard equally — before any formal legal step is taken. Some couples leave those sessions with a clearer path forward together. Others leave with a clearer understanding of where they are. Both are worthwhile outcomes.
